We placed 7th (less than a half a point out of 6th) out of the 15 teams that competed. This was Massabesic High School Cheering's best finish in SMAA competition. We are proud of cheerleaders and our most excited about the support they received from our fans. Massabesic students, parents, community members, and staff are to be congratulated for their overwhelming support last night! "The Massabesic High School Debate Team had a successful experience at the MFA (Maine Forensics Association) Debate Tournament on Saturday, January 16th. It was an elimination format tournament, and two of our students advanced to the fifth of six rounds. Senior Greg Mulcahy and Sophomore Ciera Lamontagne both obtained trophies for being semifinalists; this means that we held BOTH of the two semifinalist slots in our division (3rd place). Senior Greg Mulcahy and Junior Lauren Pierce tied for 3rd place in our division based upon speaker points (awarded for quality), having earned 51 points each. We won 8 of 14 matches. As has occurred at every match in which we have competed, other judges have come to praise us on the quality of our debaters, and their natural ability for rhetoric."

Way to go, Nolan St. Armand!
A food drive in Alfred had people filling a bus with donations.
It was the idea of a Massabesic High School junior. Nolan St. Amand arranged for a school bus to be parked outside Alfred Elementary School with the goal of collecting enough food to help feed the hungry in his community this holiday. Turnout was better than expected because the event on Saturday coincided with the annual craft fair also being held at the school.
St. Amand said he collected about 1,000 pounds of food on Saturday. With half the bus still empty, St. Amand said he planned to resume the food drive on Sunday in the hope of filling the remainder. All of the food will be donated to the Alfred Shelter and Food Pantry.
